As a coalition, all of our work is in partnership with many other local agencies that are also committed to the work of addressing youth substance abuse.

Addressing Underage Alcohol USE

• Parent Education Programs

• Addressing local policy:

  • Updating local alcohol by-laws

• Working with SHS to update substance abuse prevention curricula

• Safe prom contract

• S-BIRT screenings for all 8th and 10th grade students

• Social norms messages (big media campaign coming soon)

• Partner in SAPC (MA Substance Abuse Prevention Collaborative) upcoming media campaign on social host liability

Addressing Vaping / E-Cigs

• Parent & Teacher Education

• Addressing local policy through Board of Health regulations:

  • Banning electronic cigarettes in all tobacco free spaces

  • Restricting the sales of flavored tobacco products to 21+ tobacco establishments

  • Capping the number of tobacco and vape shop licenses

• Educational videos

• Working with OMS and SHS to use evidence based vaping prevention curricula

Addressing Underage Marijuana Use

• Parent Education Programs

• Addressing local policy:

  • Preventing retail sales of marijuana in Stoughton

  • Appropriate zoning for medical marijuana dispensaries

  • Updating public consumption by-laws

• Working with SHS to update substance abuse prevention curricula

• Social norms messages (big media campaign coming soon)

• S-BIRT screenings for all 8th and 10th grade students

Other Key Strategies

• Gathering community input into Opioid Settlement Dollars

• Youth Health Survey (every other year) for every 6-12 grade students

• Providing prevention trainings for Stoughton organizations

• U-Knighted for a Healthy Stoughton cable show on SMAC

• Stoughton Conversations Project to build local leadership capacity

• Presenting local youth data to School Committee, OMS and SHS administrations, BOS and others

• CAPP playground renovation - collaborated to design a healthier playground and park for everyone

• Stoughton Youth Leadership Institute: a program for Stoughton High Students facilitated by our Americorps Massachusetts Promise Fellow. This group meets weekly to explore concepts in leadership, college and career readiness, civic engagement and community service. Addressing Prescription drug Misuse

• Drug Take Back Events during Stoughton Hazardous Waste Day

• Drug collection box in the Police Station Lobby

• 2nd Grade Med. Safety Program

• 5th Grade Med. Safety Program (*pilot at the Dawe in December 2018)

• Working with SHS to update substance abuse prevention curricula

• S-BIRT screenings for all 8th and 10th grade students

• Partner in MOAPC (MA Opioid Abuse Prevention Collaborative)

• Filed MOLA lawsuit against “Big Pharma”

• Collaborated with Police to develop Narcan policy

• Worked with Police on overdose follow up protocol
