Talking to Your Child About Alcohol and Other Drugs
Why Talk?
Young people are bombarded with messages about drugs and alcohol every day. Though social media, advertising, conversations with friends, observed behaviors in the home and in the community lead youth to form impressions about drugs and alcohol that may be influenced by misperceptions and false information.
Parents are the number one influence on youth when it comes to drugs and alcohol, but it is important to be clear with children about your expectations so they don’t draw their own conclusions.
The Partnership to End Addiction has developed two playbooks for parents to help you think about some of the risk factors and challenges your child may encounter as well as ways to build in protection.
